DISCOVERY VISION: We strive to design and implement the best possible discovery and delivery experience for our end users using data-driven decision making. We envision a network zone experience that will allow users to discover library materials across UC collections without sacrificing relevant results. As such, the default search and results interface should prioritize the success of typical users while providing additional functionality for more advanced users.

UCSF: Tracking Decision Pages

Josephine will introduce this to the SILS Communication Operations Leads at their meeting this Thursday as a way to consolidate all Decision Pages into one place for the entire SILS cohort. This could also be useful for local implementation teams to track issues as they come up and decisions are made. It was suggested that groups or chairs could be tagged on Decision Pages to automatically notify involved FGs and other groups.

Network Scope and Union View Summary discussion

20 min

All

Review the Network Scope and Union View Summary document. Make comments or suggestions. This document will be used to facilitate conversations with local Discovery groups.

Ex Libris’s use of terminology is not always consistent, but if we can remain consistent in our own group’s discussions that will eliminate points of possible confusion.

It is notable that no other consortia we have looked at are using the union view as the default view in their Primo instance. We are curious why this is, and if the union view is being maintained but just hidden from public view. Group members are going to reach out a few different ways (listserv, personal contacts, formal like consortia contacts) to see if we can uncover the logic behind this seemingly universal choice by other Ex Libris customers.

There are inconsistent definitions of the “Network Zone” in Ex Libris documentation. Different people, depending on expertise and experience, are interpreting that phrase differently. Ex Libris uses “Discovery Network” to refer to the union discovery system. The suggestion was made that we use “Discovery Network Scope” to refer to the Network Zone in the context we mean it (the union discovery system). A suggestion was made that a SILS-wide brief glossary would be helpful in ensuring that all groups are using the same vocabulary (Josephine to take to PPC).
