  • Questions about SFX timeframe

  • Citation Linker becomes… ?

Alison Ray will be joining the meeting for this part

From Alison Ray (via email):

“Citation Linker, A-Z, SFX menu/sidebar – those will cease to exist after late October, all those sites will timeout if someone attempts to access it.

It’s possible (and perhaps likely) that patrons may have bookmarked the Citation Linker &/or A-Z list. Those bookmarks will not work (timeout from the browser) around November.

I’m hopeful to replace the UC-eLinks with the GetIt@UC well before those SFX menus/sidebars start timing out in late October. It’ll be a rolling wall, ideally starting July 28 (possibly 27th), with only a bit of mopping up by October.”

Re-think: what are we actually able to say to patrons that is true on a systemwide level

Question: What does a “rolling wall” of changes mean to end users? How could we communicate this?

Rolling timeframe of changing UC-eLinks to Get it at UC between July 28 and October. Likely, Tier 1 databases updated by CDL, Tier 3 locally. Tier 2 is not clear. After October, if links are not updated, then users will be taken to a timed out screen for SFX.

Also not clear what this means for end users with citation management programs - probably needs to be done locally or by each end user.

Teaching and reference librarians/staff will need to be prepared to work with two versions (UC-eLinks AND Get it at UC) for several months, and communicate that to end users accordingly.

Look for an email this week to address these:

Send out modified version of Melvyl & Related Services Patron chart after confirmation of this via email.
Write up your own notification for SFX A-Z list (can be customized by campus)
Finalize the Citation Linker notification message

Other items for discussion?

  • From Communications Leads: Escalation Scenarios email sent to DOC

  • Questions about the project and how it affects end users?

  • Things learned/shared from local campuses that would benefit the whole group?

Timing of UC Library Search go-live is being discussed. Please discuss with your local campus. At the Chairs meeting, Lena was saying “12 noon” because of all of the back end verifications that have to take place on the day-of. There was also discussion of “maybe we will say 12 but it will actually happen at 10.”

Questions for your campus:

  • Will Melvyl be turned off at the moment UC Library Search goes live?

  • Will our local catalog be turned off at the moment UC Library Search goes live? (If not, then you might be able to pick your time for UC Library Search to “go live” to patrons)

  • For already-Alma campuses, your local catalog probably WILL be turned off at the moment UC Library Search goes live? How will you manage this?

Stacy will ask about Melvyl’s actual expiration time.
