2 | Context Concerns when sharing individual items | Set a time for talking through the implications of these research findings for importing item records into the SILS> | 30 | @Lisa Schiff (Unlicensed) | For their dissertation (completed 2019), Jackson Huang of the University of Michigan Library analyzed a collection (“Chinese in California”) available at Bancroft, OAC, Calisphere, and DPLA and identified some really important issues regarding the loss of context for items as they made their way into these sites and the impact of that loss. https://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/handle/2027.42/149641/Huang_Jackson_20190507_Final-MTOP-Thesis.pdf?sequence=1&isAllowed=y UCLA-DCFG Discussion notes (please do not edit): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1TDU0tyVwHjeBAu1AAZ4rHDg4GJPmwKnXCyJm-UyR2pw/edit?usp=sharing |
| Group discussed inviting Jackson to speak about their research at UC Libraries forum (Oct. 26-29). Decided we should start by asking Jackson if they’d be interested. @Lisa Schiff (Unlicensed) is reaching out to Adrian Turner to see if he is connected to Jackson. Also considering reaching out to Noah Geraci since his work is mentioned in Jackson’s paper. @Krystal Boehlert (Unlicensed) will let Noah know what DCFG has been discussing.@Rachel Jaffe volunteered to help facilitate Jackson speaking at UC lib forum but is not committing to presentation-type work. |

| 5 | Everyone | Kate had posted to Slack: Can we revisit a previous discussion about the COLLECTIONS feature in Alma/Primo VE? So far Kate has found that everything has to be in Alma first, in order to create the collections. UCI has one collection of this type. |
