@Rachel Jaffe

UCSC has 3 primary resources to add to Primo: their digital collections site, Regional Oral History Project, and items in HathiTrust. Digital collections are mostly in ContentDM but they are migrating to another system. Most materials are single-image photographs (legacy collection) but also have a lot of audio from oral histories (newer collections). Total of about 100K digital objects split between the two DAMS. They have a Data Dictionary to detail how metadata is mapped to each system and to their Primo. Have similar issues as other libraries with FRBR-ized item records. Oral Histories are deposited directly to eScholarship; monograph and special collections materials directly to HathiTrust. Expect to continue pushing content to existing systems (Calisphere, eScholarship, Hathi) rather than doing separate harvesting as part of SILS 4.

We should continue conversations with CDL about FRBR-ized records and how they can be managed; whether this can be turned on/off selectively

4

Useful resources

Starting a list of documentation and other useful resources for training, assessment, testing, etc.

Everyone

Thanks everyone for providing notes and links here, please continue to do so

@Rachel Jaffe will reach out to SUNY Binghamton and UCSC to invite their staff to come talk to our group about their experiences with Primo

6

Using Task Report more effectively?

10

@Rachel Jaffe + everyone

Would be helpful to have a Task Report-Back section added to the regular agenda, so there is a specified time for people to provide updates on assigned tasks

7

SILS impact/opportunity on HathiTrust

Determine if we are the appropriate FG for this discussion and if so, scheduling a time for Kathryn Stine and Paul Fogel to come speak with us about the details (see the gloss in the Notes), and if not, identifying which FG this should go to.

@Lisa Schiff (Unlicensed) + everyone

UC Libraries' mass digitization work with Google and our requisite metadata sharing with HathiTrust (especially in support of digital content submission) both rely on long-standing, routinized extract/export processes from local UC library systems, often per existing, specified data profiles. With the advent of the SILS, these work- and dataflows will need to be refactored. Staff at CDL are looking to determine how metadata export considerations for digitization and HathiTrust participation can be integrated into the SILS planning structure and what testing mechanisms can be pursued to inform work- and dataflow changes.

@Claudia Horning (Unlicensed) will reach out to Discovery Functional Group co-chairs (Josephine Tan) to check in about overlap between our groups and who should take the lead on the HathiTrust questions

8

Task Reports

Updates on any previously assigned tasks

5

@Lisa Schiff (Unlicensed)

Lisa looked into getting Archive-It content into the SILS. They do have metadata harvesting available through OAI-PMH. Lisa is investigating and will reach out to their support team to see what would be involved for campuses to request a harvest
