Update on Calisphere test ingests

Have OAI-like files for all nominated collections. Do have records from one collection imported into Sandbox, but missing thumbnail and link (both edm namespace elements so not coming into Dublin Core). Import profile in development.

Working on set of questions for ExLibris. Have two different strategies they are pursuing → normalization rule or XML ingest (using XPath). Can either meet with ExLibris experts in February, or add questions to Basecamp. (Have specific outcomes in mind.)

Will lose Vanguard instance in late December. Will not get new instance until February. May have a brief harvesting hiatus during that time.

Question: What will be used as thumbnail for non-image collections? No decision yet. Would be good to discuss further in the future. How to handle items that are of unknown types? Maybe there is a default icon in Primo that could be used?

We should write up questions and submit via Basecamp.

• Depending on the status of the CDL Calisphere harvest, perhaps we can flesh out testing scenarios for the Discovery FG Digital Collections Usability Task List.

Digital Collections: Usability Task List

For the duration of the month of November, the Discovery FG will turn our focus to some initial user experience testing of the Primo VE Vanguard, with a subgroup specifically focused on digital collections. As we know your group of Digital Collections FG also has a deep interest in how digital collections records and services display, we are reaching out to learn how you might like to be involved in this work. 

You can review the outline of our process and the scope of our work here. We’ve also included additional useful documentation below.

How involved do you see your group getting in this work? 

• Do you have topics you would like to make sure are usability tested?

• Do you have any scripts you would like to share?

• Do you see yourselves, or a subgroup of yourselves, conducting any of this testing directly alongside our subgroup?

• Would our attendance at one of your meetings help with planning and idea generation?

If you have topics or scripts to share, or any other ideas, we would appreciate having these before November 6 at the latest.
