Welcome!

Get the meeting started; review and understand the agenda; raise questions

Claudia

Chrissy will be notetaker in September, with Lisa as backup.

Starting in October, we will start rotating alphabetically based on first names. Becky is first up in October.

PPC did not meet.

Berkeley did get their instance up. No editing ban extended to give them a chance to confirm their records are all in.

UCSC’s User Experience/User Journeys

Taking a user-centered approach to testing/assessing digital collections discovery in Primo VE

10

Rachel

User experience/user journeys developed by Jess Wagner in advance of UCSC DAMS project. (Based on interviews with a small group of undergrad students at UCSC). Thought this user-centric approach would be helpful for SILS project. The DIscovery group will be using these as a starting point. Copies are available in the shared drive.

Might be helpful to reach out to all campuses to see if they have similar documentation?

Vanguard group is looking at whether a network Primo is useful.

@Lisa Schiff (Unlicensed) will ask CDL if they have user personas that might be relevant

@Claudia Horning (Unlicensed) will check in with head of UCLA discovery group as well

Discussion about collection-level/item-level metatdata in Primo VE

Some initial brainstorming for an ongoing discussion

All

Pros and cons of sharing item vs. collection-level metadata in Primo.

UCSC - so far has been every item. A bit cumbersome for staff to edit; lots of similar metadata; FRBRized. Some collections might be better to have only collection-level metadata, others series, other items. If going through Calisphere will it just be items?

A bit abstract right now, not a way to play with it.

How responsive or flexible is Primo to changing how records are indexed?

Maybe you could provide a search that explicitly excludes/includes digital content (such as images)? Or a facet that can be used to include/exclude digital items. Similar to noise in digital libraries re: full text searching vs. metadata only searching.

@Rachel Jaffe share sample search in UCSC Primo for collection (Ruth Marion Baruch(sp?))

Testing

Review worksheet testing worksheet

10

All

Draft testing worksheet. (Links to Vanguard instances available on wiki. Do not require a login)

Are any campuses planning on testing an OAI harvest during the Vanguard?

Would be helpful to begin tracking testing scenarios in the spreadsheet now for any anticipated issues (ex: records with rights restrictions)

By the next time we meet, we should have access to the Primo layer, so we should be able to do some testing before.

Are any Vanguard campuses going to ingest collections separate from Calisphere?

Should Calisphere and eScholarship be added to the Systemwide test? Claudia says probably so.

Everyone to add testing scenarios/anticipated issues to the Vanguard testing worksheet. Improvements/suggestions for the worksheet welcome as well.
