Feedback for RM OST, see email “ … Consolidating Campus -er OCLC symbols”

say ‘yea’ or ‘nay’ to proposal

5

@Alison Ray (CDL)

  • Symbols are currently lower case (not lending) in WSILL

  • If UCs want to start ILL-ing resources from these symbols, unclear how Tipasa impacts cataloging needs for ILL

  • We assume the “technical services” community is being consulted by RM OST so we are only providing feedback from the ILL perspective.

  1. Fine for now, we might change our minds later.
@Alison Ray (CDL) will respond to the RM OST email with our decision. (fine for now, might change our minds later) Mar 30, 2022
3

discuss any feedback on Replace VDX with Tipasa: target for summer 2023

go over any feedback

are we ready to vote? (if not, set for next week)

10

all

  • Informal feedback received from a CKG member saying they are happy to go in 2023.

  • No feedback received via the list.

  • Change language from “upgrade” to “replace” to imply the complexity involved in the project.

  1. Vote taken and recorded on decision page (passed unanimously)
@Alison Ray (CDL) will change wording of the decision page from “upgrade” to “replace. Mar 24, 2022

@Alison Ray (CDL) will communicate decision made to interested parties. (action items on decision page)

pick up anywhere feature

Pickup anywhere only works if the request is filled in the AFN. Otherwise the item gets delivered to the home campus. This has come up as a confusing/misleading for users because they won’t know the item can’t be delivered where they wanted it to go until we find a lender. Is this feature actually a feature? How are your patrons using or responding to this?

20

@Mallory DeBartolo (Unlicensed) with special musings from @Jason Newborn

AFN pu anywhere good for w/in Alma, but doesn’t work if filled outside Alma. Borrower doesn’t know pu changed until item shows up at ‘wrong’ pu location.

how is it going elsewhere? Is it beneficial enough to override confusion when pu has to change?

sb: feature of afn, but not feature of ‘ill’ → don’t want to turn it off (can’t turn it off for just non-afn); can’t tell in vdx what desired pu was. can’t deliver non-afn items to non-campus pu

i: can’t know when request will go outside of afn w/in primove

m: can we find out how often this happens? our patrons not making much use

sd: not sure how often our patrons use it.

sb: would have to be analytics (not native in Alma); perhaps in ‘request sent to partner’ queue.

r: touch v. few requests that go out

la: 1-2 patrons complain that pu changed to local. our patrons are using this; interested in stats. haven’t gotten as many complaints as anticipated

b: one patron complaint, an inquiry from another; hasn’t heard as much as anticipated. how to communicate at circ desks

r: could we communicate up front (on form)

sf: only just now up on physical ill; one case went pretty well (sf pu for non sf patron); note indicated hopefulness, but understanding that it may not be possible

d: (show and tell in Alma) test request in live; can edit pu inst in Alma, maybe depending on library settings can edit pu location after arrival in Alma. we feel we’re in good spot

i: adjust afn request? d: no, change ncip message to new pu loc - may include weirdness (bookband/item barcode…), all UC bookbands look different

cdl: could more ncip message overwrite pu loc? d: have few enough messages this is unlikely (until item is returned)

sb: edit pu has potential, may be lot of work → how to know this is what patron wanted? may have more messages in hold notice

may need to harmonize bookband procedure/looks (at least partially) to make this more do-able

i: what are numbers? cost/benefit → does this happen frequently enough to justify this work (sd: me2)

  1. how often do non-home pu requests go outside afn?
  1. what messaging could be used to alert patrons that not everything can go to other uc for pu? (eg. message on request form?); consult with D OST?
  1. possibility: editing pu of ncip messages (may include bookband harmonization)
@Jason Newborn make saleseforce case with ExL: “an analytics report to determine how many last resort requests have other uc as pu loc”
@Alison Ray (CDL) put messaging topic on 3/30/22 meeting (nonuc pu locs for nonafn request) Mar 24, 2022

something like ‘what’s been in transit for >= 1 week'?

@Mallory DeBartolo (Unlicensed)

r: can see on patron record

sb: can’t seem to be able to make a report from borrowing side

r: look for things that haven’t been filled for a long time

sc: can’t see if it’s been shipped …

sd: can’t see all the statuses to monitor (just transit or here)

Mallory will submit ExL ticket: what can ExL show about this? What is best way to find stuff that’s stuck in transit btwn campuses

Adding UCs into the automatic rota in WSILL - what do we think of this? Is it helpful in filling requests that fall out of the AFN? (Mallory)
