Chair

  • ICs had a 2 hr meeting with Exlibris on Wednesday 5/13, to flesh out the project timeline.

  • ICs are working on getting meetings scheduled for Ex-Libris consultants to attend FG meetings.

  • We have our first two decisions requests to work on.

2

Decisions requests from the ICs

We have our first decisions requests from the ICs. Take a look at the background, dependencies, and questions to consider for both, so we can discuss and work towards decision on both. Our deadline for these two decisions is May 21st.

Think about any questions you may have, or potential action items we may need to assign before before making the decisions.

Deadlines for both are May 21st. If we can decide sooner, that’s great.

It may be that we create a recommendation and escalate one or both of these decisions.

Patron Record Database:

The ICs tentatively recommend maintaining separate databases at each campus.

If we decide on separate institutional patron databases, it could be that this group puts forth additional recommendations in the future related to patron identifiers.

This group may ask the Patron Data Group to survey what information is used to identify patrons in different groups and how it is formatted.

Expired Patron Migration:

There is some concern about those expired patrons with outstanding loans or bills on their account.

Other campuses were able to migrate relevant information related to expired patrons.

Many campuses purge with some regularity.

Some campuses have had good experiences using the automated migration process.

Go forward with separate institutional patron databases.

Make the recommendation that expired patrons with no outstanding transactions be removed via the automated process.

Make the recommendation that campuses move forward purging their databases as much as possible, making local decisions regarding those expired patrons with fines. In the next six months.

Joe Ferrie will look at the adapter code for Alma institutions and look at the Alma sandbox trying to understand more about how to configure a fulfillment network.

3

Review and vote on whether to move to a fulfillment network or not.

Ahead of this meeting, review the training modules under the Fulfillment Networks Resource Sharing, Broker-Based Resource Sharing, and Peer-to-Peer Resource Sharing groups on this page:

https://exlibris.libguides.com/alma/fulfillment

Here’s some things to think about for our discussion:

  • Any pros or cons you identified off the bat?

  • What instances would we find peer to peer or broker based setup more useful?

  • What level of harmonization would be needed for each?

  • Does CSUs and possibly some California Community Colleges being on Alma make us lean in a certain direction?
