ACQ & ERES

Agenda ideas for 3/16

10 min

@Michelle Polchow

Propose discussing methods for front-file record keeping and management

Other topics from last week:

  • General discussion on dissolution of CDLNZ TF

  • Leverage SILS structure to push decisions up that have stalled

  • Maintenance & record keeping

    • Transformative agreements

    • Elsevier - reinstated access

Meeting discussion:

  • Any areas of duplicating work between ERES & ACQ?

  • Is there anything that SILS groups could do to lay the groundwork for future work in the NZ? Ways to help CDL that would require NZ permissions?

    • Ways for ERES to become more like SCP, where campuses sometimes help with cataloging, and SCP handles distribution

Compare/contrast how Title Transfers and Perpetual Access (or Post-cancellation access) have similar and differing workflow needs

Perpetual rights and entitlement tracking in Alma DRAFT
PPT orientation to broad topics within this deliverable

  • Language: Be clear when discussing perpetual access vs post-cancellation access (often used interchangeably)

  • Data used for business decisions like cancelling print subscriptions or retaining old print copies, or negotiation/pricing decisions

  • Exercise: asking ourselves a few questions:

    • How many titles do we have, and how many are securely backed up by 3rd party preservation?

    • How many staff do we have dedicated to e-resources/serials?

  • Question of open access impact & secure open access archiving. Article - Open access is not forever.

  • local discussion:

    • View of perpetual access as either post-cancellation access vs. long-term preservation

    • bigger questions are interesting, but scope of this group is Alma, so issues around long-term preservation might be outside scope.

    • Still need guidance on best practices for recording post-cancellation access in Alma

    • Issues with title changes/other metadata issues that make it more difficult to make decisions

    • Staffing issues make it more difficult to do the initial work for recording data, in order to facilitate business decisions later on
