Discussion items

DISCOVERY VISION: We strive to design and implement the best possible discovery and delivery experience for our end users using data-driven decision making. We envision a network zone experience that will allow users to discover library materials across UC collections without sacrificing relevant results. As such, the default search and results interface should prioritize the success of typical users while providing additional functionality for more advanced users.

Make sure your dev info is in the spreadsheet

Jess

PMs will set up a Slack channel for Primo devs.

Make sure your Primo dev’s info is in the IT Contacts tab: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-LajQYF8j8yaC2Z81OPCRTIFhCnA9weQXiwc0Wc_jK0/edit#gid=1479950880

Add “Primo” in the notes if your contact only works in Primo. They can remove themselves from the Slack channel if desired.

Basic WorldCat Discovery vs. Worldcat.org

Answer the questions for consideration

30 min

All

(Go Live) Basic WorldCat Discovery Configuration

  • Benefits: Identified benefits of using Basic Worldcat Discovery over native worldcat interface (http://worldcat.org ). Update benefits on “What to do with Basic Worldcat Discovery” decision page.

  • Name and logo for Basic Worldcat Discovery:

    • Preference for using the same logo (rainbow Worldcat logo) used in external links for Worldcat in UC Library Search

    • Differences between campus instances:

      • Does each campus instance include the same resources?

      • Each campus instance link resolver will take them to their own campus

    • Color scheme: harmonized

  • What’s the purpose of Worldcat in the new SILS environment?

    • discovery

    • request and access

    • backup system if Primo is down

  • Possible work: Consider which of the indexes that can be included in BWD are already included in UC Library Search and remove from BWCD; consultation with local stakeholders.

  • Contributed LHR data for material types in BWCD:

    • holdings for ebooks may not be discoverable outside of UC Library Search

  • Default search scope:

    • libraries worldwide, based on identified purpose of BWCD

  • When should switch to BWCD happen?

    • at go-live (or within a few days)

@Jess Waggoner Check in with Alison about what’s included in BWCD; updates to BWCD decision page
