DISCOVERY VISION: We strive to design and implement the best possible discovery and delivery experience for our end users using data-driven decision making. We envision a network zone experience that will allow users to discover library materials across UC collections without sacrificing relevant results. As such, the default search and results interface should prioritize the success of typical users while providing additional functionality for more advanced users.

PPC: voted to stay with EasyActive for CDI activation; RMFG will take on the suppression of records in the discovery network - the specific MARC field. Each campus can control which they wish to use or suppress.

Jess added CSS rule into our drive folder for how to Show Main Menu on OpenURL Pages (when getting back to PrimoVE via Basic WorldCat Discovery)

Decision pages:

UC-eLinks - Fulfillment & EUOS will get back to us by 5/14

Primo VE Branding Elements - Communications & EUOS will get back to us by 5/20

Primo VE First Look session discussion update

Relay discussion from ITS, EUOS, and DFG mtg

10 min

Co-chairs of ITS, EUOS, and DFG met last Wed.

Discovery’s recommendation is to have each campus host their own local PrimoVE first look session. EUOS seems to be in agreement with Discovery’s preference.

After this meeting, EUOS put together slides for Intro to UC Library Search (for staff) - TEMPLATE that local teams can work off of.

We (DFG) will serve as subject matter experts if local groups have questions that we can answer/update/connect with the group that can best answer, as collected by ITS and EUOS.

Managing local fields for display, search, facet

Get ready for drafting decision page

The Ex Libris recommendation is as follows: Local campuses should use local_field_1 through local_field_50 for display, search and faceting. Local_field_51 through local_field_100 should be reserved for centrally managed display, search and faceting. Do we want to harmonize on fields for display and facet purposes, and if so who will be doing that work/coordination?

Josephine will create a draft decision page on this issue, with attached documentation outlining the proposed use of various fields.

FRBR for NZ

Discuss how to coordinate this for NZ harmonization

20 min

All

Harmonize on FRBR Suppression Rules (we are the “R” & “A”) of this decision to be drafted; RMFG will also be an “R”).

How to test? How to implement?

We will want to consult additionally with the Digital Collections FG.

Revisit this decision 6 months post-go-live.

We recommend leaving FRBR on but with suppression rules in place.

Jess will draft a Decision page on this issue, which will then be shared with DCFG and RMFG.

It is unclear if non-harmonized implementations will create issues for fulfillment or ILL. Sarah will check with CDL staff.

All: Fill out WC preference sheet by
Sarah will share this with the SILS Operations Team at CDL to check for any red flags for fulfillment and ILL issues

Next steps for Limit by Availability

15 min

All

We’ll write up our guidance and recommendations for Limit by Availability.

Our follow up recommendation will likely be a set of recommendations/rationales to help inform local campus about the implications of deciding whether to Limit By Availability or not.

DFG will create documentation with our recommendations and link to that from the decision page from PPC.
