Updates/announcements (Please add in advance)

10 mins

Liz:

  • All-chairs was cancelled this week

  • Successfully completed our first fiscal close and things seem ok!

  • Locally still working on Gobi, taking our first steps toward loading ebook records

Hermine

  • Still studying what’s happening with CZ matches. Worst situation when running the NZ linking job seems to be when there is a CZ record in the NZ with a matching OCLC number and no non-CZ record--the job will pick linking to the CZ record rather than contributing the IZ record. Also working on cleaning up some CZ-linked physical records that have come through in copy cataloging.

  • Locally I’m playing with indexing more subfields in the name browse index to see if we can get close to being able to browse name-titles.

  • Has anyone use material type in item records? (UCB & UCI have short list to tie to UCOP statistics)

Marcia

  • Has any campus customized how metadata displays in Discovery?

  • On Primo discovery metadata display, LA will share its configuration in the shared Google doc folder; UCB suggest to make it systemwide instead of having each campus figuring it out, will share UCB document when it is finalized

WorldCat Updates

Updates/new questions

10 mins

Adding serials: the easiest way to get the serials into Alma is to add another import profile that grabs the existing (but heretofore ignored) WorldShare serials collection. Gem will set that up next week. That also has the added bonus of some additional control/we can turn it off if it’s terrible.

The current import profile only grabs files marked “updates” by OCLC. OCLC also delivers files marked “new,” “merges,” and “deletes.”

  • New=one of the UC holdings symbols was added to the record for the first time

  • Merges=records with at least one UC holdings symbol were merged in OCLC

  • Deletes=all UC holdings symbols have been removed

Should we start adding any of these other files to the process?

We’re probably about ready for a UC-wide session on these, when should we set that up?

  • May we test import profile with files with “new” & “merges” before we ask campuses for feedback? Yes--can do it together at CMOS regular meetings

  • May host another info sharing session on WC Updates, looking for September

  • Liz will ask Gem about her preference on whether to change file name pattern or create separate import profile for serials; and let the group know.

Authority control

Update

Local series statements

10 mins

Update from Hermine:

I tried to do a proof of concept report of the unlinked headings report (i.e., headings that didn’t match an authority record), but it was Too Big--over 100K headings for one month. Trying to do something with MarcEdit instead, but that would just be for UCLA…

RM Member for the OA project team

See who is interested in serving as a rep to this group

Discuss proposed models for UC OA resource management, ask for campus feedback before 7/21

  • Specific questions:

    • What are the pros and cons of each model?

    • What impact would models #2 & #3 have on your technical services staff?  Is there support and/or bandwidth to have some of this work done at a local level?

Campus rep, read the charge and report and let Liz know if you are interested in serving a rep from RM-COMS.

May ask campus if any have capacity and willing to do and bring back to this group to formalize; also work with CKG; would you prefer formal or semi-formal commitment
