Start recording!

Hermine/UCLA:

Shi/SCP:

  • ETD updates:

    • Looking at setting up OCLC Data Sync Collection

      • May want to make sure others are not already adding UC ETDs to OCLC; CLD eScholarship is contributing records through the Digital Collection Gateway and may not have a lot of control over which collections are included; some campuses are fine with the duplicate records in OCLC

    • “qt” appears before the identifier in 024 but not in the 856 – why? (e.g., OCLC #1423483923)

    • Will the Merritt ID in 924 be added to the OCLC record?

    • Should records for perpetually embargoed ETDs be sent to OCLC?

      • May depend on how discoverable they should be and if they are visible in eScholarship

    • ProQuest records vs. RM proposed record

      • There are some differences, so we might want to request a sample of UC ETD records from ProQuest

Catherine/UCSB:

  • Testing updating Music Library locations to Main Library locations, etc.

@Hermine Vermeij: Ask CDL how they handle permanently embargoed ETDs (e.g., are they discoverable in eScholarship?)
Request a sample of UC ETD records from ProQuest

Local data in NZ check-in

10 min

All

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1W9veEVN1Fq73NezDzWLPLEc7f3F246KVVmwWI83uJVU/edit?usp=sharing

  • How is local data cleanup going?

    • Progressing; campuses are at various stages of cleanup

  • Revisit stripping most 9XX fields out in norm rule?UC Network Zone Rule Change Request Tracking Page

    • Fields 935, 938, 945, 948, 98X, 993, 994 are already stripped out

    • Normalization applies to the incoming record and does not impact records already in Alma

    • If we are seeing new fields that we have already cleaned up, we may need to do more outreach and training to make sure catalogers know how to enter them correctly

  • Run the reports one last time before making changes to the norm rules

Everyone continue cleaning up local data in NZ records
@Hermine Vermeij: Update spreadsheet for campuses to check off when they are finished (if they want)

  • MARC documentation - 3 = Component part(s) of resource; 4 = Version of component part(s) of resource

  • Continue allowing through norm rule? Or strip out?

  • No change to the norm rule at this time; there is not enough data to make a decision

  • Coding for tables of contents:

    • When possible, use indicators 43 or 44 as appropriate

    • Alternatively, accept indicators as provided

035 editing restriction

5 min

Testing in sandbox--how’s it going? Time to get campus feedback? Or expand first in sandbox (other 59X, 950-999… ?)

Restricting Editing of NZ Fields

  • Will make the restriction for editing the 035 field first and separately from other fields

  • Configuration change will be made close to the UC-wide session

@Hermine Vermeij: Find and schedule a time for a UC-wide sharing session for restricting 035 editing in NZ records and how to use the norm process to mark NZ bibs for deletion
