Updates/announcements (Please add in advance)

10 mins

Hermine (UCLA)

  • No movement on ticket about field order. 5XX and 7XX seem to be affected; I haven’t noticed it happening with 6XX (why?)

  • FYI: we noticed an unfamiliar OCLC holdings symbol (SBCLU - Sandbox UCLA) on records; it is being used to test ILL/Tipasa, and most of the UCs have them.

Shi (SCP)

CDL would like to get rid of the PID service or freeze it (existing PIDs can still be searched but no new assignment or updating of PIDs) rather than rewriting it to be compliant with the new version of Amazon Web Services (AWS).  Currently info gathering stage and not know when this will happen, how much timetable SCP and campuses have to prepare for the change, etc. --Just heads-up for campuses who use PIDs for e-resources, LibGuide and/or links to CDL managed e-resources need to be aware and prepare for the potential impact of the upcoming change. We will keep RM and SCP-AC in loop. Please send any questions to Gem Stone-Logan and Shi

UCSC is doing cleanup on 973 field data with the goal of limiting this field to collection name data which we will then index and display.

UC/ExL Meeting for CJK Search results follow-up

10 mins

Liz

Primo Update: Gem submitted a ticket, copying Liz, Hermine and Jessica Kruppa on Discovery

Any additional feedback on the sandbox changes?

Any questions for ExLibris?

024 $z Validation in the NZ

Decide whether we want/need to change the NZ validation rules

15 mins

Catherine

When 024 has an invalid number in $z, it will create a warning with the message: 024 - ISMN check digit is not valid (or UPC, EAN, etc.).

The control of this is managed at the NZ level, and simply requires the removal of subfield z from the validation.

CDL says that this does not require a decision page but needs to be documented and approved by RM-CMOS.

  • RM approves removal of 024 $z from the validation.

  • If other subfields are problematic, we can communicate and approve over Slack or email.

MARCIVE Check-in

Pre-migration to SILS, nine campuses were paying for Marcive records. We consolidated the service and used UCSD’s ER Marcive records as the NZ base collection. We get new Marcive records via an import profile which we have not monitored. Do we need to review ?

Norm rules in the import profile add the collection name in field 930. Search E-collections for “US Government Documents via MARCIVE” to see the entire collection.

MARCIVE adds a stamp to field 903, “MARCIVE Batch Load YYYY-MM.”

We won’t do a QA analysis of new records, but we will respond to any reported issues.

@Elizabeth Miraglia will confirm that Gem is getting email notifications if there is a problem with an import.

Parking Lot/additional discussion

  • Alma August release has five CZ “Managed by Community” collections where portfolios can be deleted by everyone

  • Interest in session answering questions on how campuses decide when or why to use CZ

Limited Search Functionality in Alma and Analytics

Sharing session idea - fun with the CZ? (Maybe in conjunction with e-res?)

Evaluate and refine WDU configuration

CJK searching problems. Due to Alma not being able to cross-search variant Japanese Kanjis, the Japanese cataloger at UCB has expressed the desire of pursuing adding variant access points for variant forms of Kanji to bibliographic records and making them searchable not only in UCB's Primo but also other UC campuses.  TJ suggested that UCB approach CDL about asking for a Network Zone local extension (900-949) for this purpose. If it does happen, campuses that are interested in taking advantage of this feature will need to adjust their Alma and Primo configurations accordingly.
