10 mins

All

Liz:

  • CJK subgroup members:

    • RM: Shi Deng, Hermine Vermeij, Liz Miraglia

    • EAS: Ying Zhang (UCI), Haiqing Lin (UCB), Naomi Shirashi (UCB), Tomoko Bialock (UCLA), Junko Tanaka (UCLA)

Yoko:
OARM-PT update-- currently focusing on higher level questions (e.g., definition/scope of OA; general workflow, etc.) and no plans to discuss ETD policy/procedures yet.

Adam: Began incorporating ACQ work order in the cataloging workflow. Will share the documentation if folks are interested.

UCSC: Metadata Services is having a retreat on Monday and will discuss the Cataloging Code of Ethics

$5 codes/normalization

Rules are already in the sandbox. Is everyone ready to test them?

Shi: Campuses with Japanese collections funded by NCC are using a 500 note to indicate the source. But there are slight variations between campuses. Shi is working on harmonize the phrase and asks to include them in the rules.

Adam: Should campuses submit all codes, including legacy and current codes/MARC organization codes vs. other codes, for inclusion?

Liz suggested campuses submit all codes for inclusion.

Catherine mentioned that Jeremy Hobbs used PyMARC to identify MARC fields with “odd” $5 will ask him if it is okay to share the scripts.

Testing for two weeks and report by 12/15

Rule changes

15 mins

Liz

Review outstanding change requests: UC Network Zone Rule Change Request Tracking Page - Resource Management - SILS

Catherine has updated the merge rule for external search

Concern for deleting 035 ocm/ocn/on: Some campuses might have records only with OCLC numbers with ocm/ocn/on. Adam asked if it is possible to only apply this rule to records coming through WDU.

Test by 12/15

Liz will reach out to Lisa Wong about the possibility of adding a line that removes 035 with prefix only when 035 without prefix is present

HathiTrust Collections

Liz/Shi

There are 2 CZ collections that provide access to HT materials in Primo, which would mean SCP no longer has to manage HT locally.

SCP-AC has discussed and is in favor of activating the CZ collections and removing the local SCP one.

CDL would like for RM to weigh in as well

Question for campuses: is it okay to turn on the HathiTrust Digital Library Full View Worldwide collection? Advantage: activating the collection can ensure patrons get the URLs immediately.

Adam: What’s the impact if campuses have activated this collection in IZ already? One will take precedence over the other. But, we are not sure which one.

Shi: How to engage input within campuses? Local RM or other groups?

UCSB: a regular meeting to discuss if it is necessary to mirror the SILS structure.

UCLA: Local SILS group meets every other week.

UCB: Local coordination team. Hard to carry on meaningful discussions

UCSF: Three member group meets every week

UCR: No ER librarian. Work distributed among ACQ, CAT, and CS. Information about RM is shared but cross-department communication could be improved

UCSD: Once a month meeting and information shared at high level. In addition, more subject-focus groups to work on all areas

Suggestion: a regular systemwide newsletter that highlight each SILS group’s work.

Question: For cross-area subjects, would it be more appropriate to go to CKGs for decisions?

Shi will write up some questions to share with campuses to engage input

Work Plan Check-in

Parking Lot/additional discussion

  • Alma August release has five CZ “Managed by Community” collections where portfolios can be deleted by everyone

  • Interest in session answering questions on how campuses decide when or why to use CZ

Limited Search Functionality in Alma and Analytics

Sharing session idea - fun with the CZ? (Maybe in conjunction with e-res?)

Evaluate and refine WDU configuration
