UCLA (Hermine):

• Local group being formed to look at e-bookplates (again) and fund-based collection hooks (again). (These issues got back-burnered during implementation.)

• Problem with 5XX fields loading in reverse numerical order when loading a file of records into the IZ to overlay existing IZ records in the PSB.

Liz:

• All-chairs: Leadership group will be sending out a new assessment for the governance structure

• Locally working on UCOP stats. It’s been an adventure.

• Leadership Group will be charging an Annual Statistics Project Team that will consider how to gather Annual Statistics from Alma

  • Reminder: Network Zone data may be requested from the CDL SILS Operations Center.

Shi: SCP is very excited that Jason Chodur will start on Monday, October 3, fill the position after Donal’s retirement in December 2021

UC/ExL Meeting for CJK Search results follow-up

Any initial feedback on the sandbox changes?

UCLA:

• Details in email, but it seemed to solve the Chinese and Japanese problems we were having without having a negative impact on other non-Roman script indexing.

• Question about updating indexing/search in Primo

UCD: fairly satisfying results except for two cases:

• Crossmapping between some Chinese characters

  • Some simplified Chinese characters represent multiple traditional Chinese ones. While most cases are done successfully, some small numbers of cases are not, e.g. 宁 & 甯, 只 & 衹.

• Crossmapping between Hangul and Hanja

  • According to this ExL Knowledge Center article, "Alma also does Hanja to Hangul transliteration." But, I got testing results when testing with these terms: 한국 & 韓國, 亞細亞 & 아세아, 전라 & 全羅.

UCI: tested Chinese and Japanese – no issues to report

Need additional testing in Korean to test the two issues raised by UCD.

Will need to work with the Discovery Operations Subteam to implement the Korean indexing language in the Primo sandbox. May consider only reindexing a small set of records to use for testing.

Changes will be implemented in production to coincide with the Ex Libris' semiannual reindexing (target February 2023).

Hermine will follow-up with cataloger at UCLA with Korean expertise to test the two issues raised by UCD.

Is it possible to get a complete listing of the mapping used by Ex Libris?

Liz will reach out to Discovery.

Parking Lot/additional discussion

• Alma August release has five CZ “Managed by Community” collections where portfolios can be deleted by everyone

• Interest in session answering questions on how campuses decide when or why to use CZ

Limited Search Functionality in Alma and Analytics

• EL has been asked repeatedly to index all MARC fields. There is a limit on the number of local parameters we can set up, and there is a need to identify data that is not indexed (example, content type)

• Alma Idea Exchange: Add 880 field to the Bibliographic Details dimension table in Analytics

Sharing session idea - fun with the CZ? (Maybe in conjunction with e-res?)

Evaluate and refine WDU configuration

CJK searching problems. Due to Alma not being able to cross-search variant Japanese Kanjis, the Japanese cataloger at UCB has expressed the desire of pursuing adding variant access points for variant forms of Kanji to bibliographic records and making them searchable not only in UCB's Primo but also other UC campuses.  TJ suggested that UCB approach CDL about asking for a Network Zone local extension (900-949) for this purpose. If it does happen, campuses that are interested in taking advantage of this feature will need to adjust their Alma and Primo configurations accordingly.
