Start recording!

UCSC:

  • Metadata Services is hiring a Cataloging Specialist (Library Professional 4 CX).  Initial Review Date is March 25, 2024.

Hermine/UCLA:

UCB:

  • Reviewing practices in holdings records

    • Do we need to retain migrated 001 fields?

    • Can we use the Holdings ID in the 001 field?

    • Reordering MARC holdings fields on save

UCSD:

  • Started cleaning up outdated LCSH in UCSD records using a combo of the LC Subjects search in Alma and the analytics report found in the community folders. I think this could approach could be useful in the NZ as well.

UCSB

  • Unlinked and deleted 260,000+ UCSB SRLF holdings identified as being processed/held by SRLF

  • Working with Gem to fix some duplicate local extensions that came in as part of WCD update problem

SCP/CDL

  • Met CDL eScholarship on the workflow of ETDs on April 1, mainly ask questions and understand the workflow; SCP will look at the option of using OCLC Data Sync for adding ETD records to OCLC

We would like a GitHub space for maintaining copies of rules

No objections were made to the idea of having an official RLF rep on RM-OST

@Hermine Vermeij will request a RM-OST GitHub space

Feedback from Chad Nelson: please express MARC structure as explicitly as possible (i.e., be consistent with subfield codes; call out 1st indicator and 2nd indicator.

Reactions to last month’s discussion? (2024-03-14 Meeting notes)

It would be helpful for designing our ETD records to see what data Proquest supplies to CDL. Information can be found at this link

655 $a Dissertations, Academic $z [Campus name] $x [Department name] field. We removed the chronological subdivision from this field

710 may just add campus name and degree granting institution. Easier to control headings

024 field with eScholarship key would be useful

Degrees issued jointly with another institution. The other institution may be added in an additional 710 field

546, 799 fields deleted as unnecessary

All -if you use the 540 Terms governing use and reproduction field, please add information about how you use the field and an example
If no use for 540 field @Hermine Vermeij will delete it
All - 610 - anyone using this, please explain its use
All - 650 - if you are using this, please confirm
@Shi Deng will add to the spreadsheet any local SCP fields
